Let me tell you where my journey started; it was not long after leaving college in the UK, so I was around 18yrs old working with a man who was in his late 40s who was fitter, healthier and stronger than me. At 18 years old I should have been feeling like I was in my prime, instead I was 18stone and sluggish.
From that moment on I decided to take myself on a journey to try and get fitter and stronger. As you can imagine, I spent countless hours trawling the internet searching for a magic pill or a quick fix. I was 18 after all..
Heck it didn't come, no matter how many times it was promised, fad diets here, shake diets there, you name it I probably done it. It was the same with my training routine too, GVT training here because its good for muscle building, The 12 week programme written in muscle and fitness because its gonna get me rock hard abs and 18" guns...
This went on for a few years, until I started getting super serious with my training and wanted to progress further into bodybuilding, during these years I almost succumbed to the thoughts of, "being lean isn't for me", "I can't be lean", "its hard for me to diet", you know the thought patterns right?
But I did make it, I managed to get myself a coach, I was coachable, I asked questions and followed the plan religiously, I got so lean, I competed and I become the person I didn't think I would ever be...
But that came at a cost, a cost of my relationship with food. The restrictive nature that bodybuilding preps can induce really messed with how I saw food and how I acted around it, often eating in secret and then binging because "cheat day" right?
But that is where my love for nutrition grew stronger and this is where I decided to take that step into education and study nutrition. I thought there had to be a better way to get through periods like that.
That is where I studied with Mac Nutrition Uni, quiet easily hands down the best gold standard nutrition course out there, I spent an intense 12 months learning the fundamentals of nutrition and biology with a keen interest in health and sports nutrition.
From there, I then also took the plunge to go back into education when I immigrated to Australia and done a PT course, so I can combine 2 of my favourite things together and help create a better industry by helping people like you make the most out of their health.
Today, I stand before you, not as the fat kid but as a passionate, empathetic, confident health coach that is determined to help you achieve the results you are so desperately wanting to achieve.

Starvation mode implies that your body reduces calorie expenditure when calories consumed are low to help restore energy balance and to stop you losing weight even in the continued calorie deficit.
Today I am going to burst your bubble, I'm sorry to say.
I am sure that you have heard of starvation mode, and have many beliefs about it.
If you've never heard that phrase, then let me break it down for you quicky.
Starvation mode implies that your body reduces calorie expenditure when calories consumed are low to help restore energy balance and to stop you losing weight even in the continued calorie deficit.
The bad news here, is, that starvation mode is a lie, it doesn't exist.
Yes, as you lose weight your body reduces it's calorie expenditure, when you become lighter you have less weight to carry around and thus burn less calories, in the event of extreme diets you also tend to move around less, fidget less and overall reduce any unneeded movement.
Yes, fidgeting, the face you are pulling reading this, the itch on your face all burn calories for you to perform those movements, they are involuntary sometimes, but when you diet down to extremes these movements also become less, and therefore you end up burning less calories.
How do we know this?
Well, I want to draw your attention to the Minnesota Starvation Project - it was a study conducted in 1944 during WW2, in which 36 conscientious objectors were effectively starved in a controlled manner so that the world could better understand how to deal with the aftermath of the war and help the millions of people who were experiencing famine.
In this study, each healthy subject lost more than 25% of their total bodyweight, it was during this study that it was noted that some of the involuntary movements as above became less frequent - the study in itself meant that the participants had to walk 22 miles a week in a calorie controlled environment that would often change depending on their progress of losing weight.
Each subject continued to lose weight the less and less they ate.
Next time you feel like that your body weight isn't moving despite your best efforts of dieting and you start blaming your metabolism or 'starvation mode' then think back to this email, it doesn't exist.
And it ultimately means you are not in a calorie deficit and to take a closer look at what your doing in terms of calories and expenditure.
